This course examines the ancient story pattern known as "The Hero's Journey," which has been used globally in stories from thousands of years ago to modern Hollywood blockbusters and videogames. Students will have opportunities to improve reading comprehension and analysis of classical works. They will also examine the historical context of these stories, as well as exploring the cultural and sociological significance of this theme. Finally, students will refine their writing skills as they use the pattern of the Hero's Journey as a foundation from which to write narrative, persuasive, and research essays about their own "heroic" journey through life.
This is a year-long course and can be considered as being equivalent to 1 high school credit for English.
This course meets on Mondays.
